Well, will you look at that? An eagle-eyed gamer has apparently spotted Rise of the Tomb Raider for PC, lurking on Amazon’s US site – complete with a release date of January 29. That doesn’t sound like a placeholder, unlike “December 31, 2016”, which is the date listed now – it seems Amazon might have let a cat out of the bag a little early.
We knew that Lara’s latest adventure would be coming to PC (also via Steam) in “early 2016”, so the date does make a lot of sense. It’s just that Crystal Dynamics (and, importantly, Microsoft) hasn’t made any firm announcements just yet – hoping to cash in on that Xbox-exclusivity for the holiday season.
However, with early reports suggesting that the exclusivity deal is actually doing Lara more harm than good (to illustrate, the game didn’t make the US Top 10 best-selling games for November, despite some killer reviews), it’s possible the PC release might have been brought forward to help give things a boost.
Of course, there’s a bigger boost just waiting for the game to arrive on PS4, but that won’t happen until next Christmas – the Microsoft-only deal lasts for 12 long months.
