Unravel to bring yarn-filled physics puzzles in February

It was the unexpected highlight of this year’s E3, an adorable new game starring a doll made entirely of string. Now, six months after its big reveal, Unravel has a release date – and, happily, it’s not too far away!

Martin Sahlin, Creative Director at developer Coldwood Interactive in Umeå, Sweden, was inspired while on a family camping trip. On a walk through the woods, he created the character Yarny out of a piece of yarn and some discarded wire.

Gaming is a powerful platform, able to inspire players and touch their hearts. With Unravel, we’re hoping to do just that. Yarny’s quest is to mend broken bonds and the yarn represents the love and connection between people. Along the way, we’ll test your cleverness with environment-based puzzles inspired by our home in Northern Sweden.

Yes. A game, from a big name publisher, all about love – it’s a thing of sheer beauty! Described as a character with a “small thread and a big heart”, Yarny (and the player!) will traverse through some breathtaking Scandinavian environments in a physics-based puzzle platformer, using his thread to swing across gaps, climb up (or down) trees or weave webs between obstacles. Some puzzles are simple, others are more challenging, and Yarny’s thread is the solution to all of them.

Today’s new trailer also offers a glimpse at the heartfelt story of Unravel, a tale of love, longing, and the ties that bind.

Unravel is headed to PC, PS4 and Xbox One as a digital download from February 9, 2016. EA Access members on Xbox One will be given early access to the game, with more details to be revealed soon.
