Much like the infamous holiday specials, some things in the Star Wars lineage just can’t be forgotten; regardless of how much you try. But we’re here to talk about something good that is refusing to leave our collective memory, Star Wars 1313.
LucasArts’ seemingly canceled Star Wars 1313, a third-person action-adventure set in the lower depths of Coruscant, may hopefully return in some form, according to Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.
Speaking to Slashfilm, Kennedy said Lucasfilm were “pouring through”some of the unused material developed for Star Wars 1313 and assets for the scrapped Star Wars Underworld cable television show, which was also set on Coruscant.
“We don’t want to throw any of that stuff away,” Kennedy told Slashfilm. “It’s gold. And it’s something we’re spending a lot of time looking at, pouring through, discussing, and we may very well develop those things further. We definitely want to.”
Star Wars 1313 was originally announced prior to E3 2012, with LucasArts’ describing it as so:
As players take control of a lethal bounty hunter in a never-before-seen dark and mature world, Star Wars 1313 introduces an integrated development approach by bringing together great artists across the Lucasfilm organization, including LucasArts, Industrial Light & Magic, Lucasfilm Animation Ltd. and Skywalker Sound. A third person cinematic action adventure game, Star Wars 1313 will bring to life the Coruscant underworld, the most dangerous place in the Star Wars galaxy.
Some folk are already drawing lines to the new EA Star Wars game in development at Visceral. EA have remained relatively silent about the project but according voice actor Nolan North, the team is taking a few cues from 1313 and Uncharted; which makes sense considering Uncharted writer Amy Hennig is working on the title’s narrative.
So far, as most things are in this industry, this is mostly speculation at best. All I can say is a lot of people want this title. Search your heart Disney, you know it to be true.
