Fun fact: It’s been nearly 15 years since Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon wire-kung-fu-kicked its way into cinemas. Second Fun Fact: It would go on to be the highest grossing foreign film ever at the U.S box office. Why am I bringing this up? Well, Netflix just dropped the trailer for the sequel titled Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny. I’ve popped the sucker below, just try to ignore the bizarre choice of soundtrack and 18th century Chinese warriors speaking English.
Directed by legendary fight choreographer Yuen Woo-Ping (Iron Monkey, The Matrix), Sword of Destiny sees Michelle Yeoh reprising her role as the zen as fuck warrior, Yu Shu Lien. Adapted from the fifth and final novel in the Crane Iron series, the new film sees Lien forced from retirement to stop a brutal warlord who has claimed the legendary
mcguffin sword that her previous adventure hinged on.
Yeoh is the only returning cast member, but she will joined on screen by noted ass kicker Donnie Yen.
The film will simultaneously premiere in select IMAX theaters in the U.S and on Netflix Feb. 26. No word of an Australian cinematic release as of yet, but here’s hoping.
