The article title leaves nothing to the imagination, but I’ll reiterate it anyway. The Big N has finally announced that Minecraft Wii U Edition will be hitting the titular console on December 17, just in time for gift day…real crafty Nintendo. Real crafty.
Minecraft: Wii U Edition includes a number of add-on packs and will be available on the Nintendo eShop for $29.99 (USD). Nintendo and Mojang are also working together on new content for the Nintendo version of the game, according to today’s press release; so get ready for all of the Mario themed blocks!
The Wii U version of Minecraft will support full play on the GamePad’s screen and split-screen play on the TV; with up to four people able to play in split-screen mode and up to eight online.
The add-on packs the Wii U version will ship with include Battle & Beasts Skin Pack 1 and 2, Natural Texture Pack, City Texture Pack, Festive Mash-up Pack and Fantasy Texture Pack. 16 other add-on packs, including both skins and textures, will be available for purchase through the Nintendo eStore.
“With so many included add-on content packs, Minecraft: Wii U Edition brings an exciting collection of Minecraft content and experiences to Nintendo fans,” Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s president and COO, said in a prepared statement. “Wii U players will have plenty of reasons to keep coming back to this iconic gaming experience.”
And for those who prefer the feeling of owning tangible games, Mojang’s Kristoffer Jelbring said the Minecraft: Wii U Edition will be released on disc “at a later date.”
