Fallout. Beer. Fallout beer. Yes, it’s a thing, and yes, it’s official. Described as a “light coloured pilsner lager, with a refreshing zesty hoppy taste and a floral aroma”, the official post-apocalyptic RPG tie-in has just been announced, ahead of Bethesda’s big blockbuster next month.
Created in conjunction with acclaimed brewery Carlsberg UK, this could be one of the few times a publisher has acknowledged that adults play video games, and quite a lot of them like beer. Not that we wouldn’t have appreciated a limited-edition Nuka Cola release, or something non-alcoholic, but this is nice.
Bruce Ray from the brewery explains:
This is something of a world-first. Adult participation in video gaming is a truly social activity, on a par with cinema and music. We’re proud to work with Bethesda to produce a beer Fallout fans can enjoy.
The beer itself has been brewed “using a unique blend of malted barleys combined with selected hops, to produce a light coloured lager with a fruity aroma and a crisp bitter finish”, resulting in a 4% alcohol content.
Available via Amazon for £29.99 per case of 12, the new Fallout brew comes – of course – in pretty glass bottles so you can collect the caps (it’d just be wrong for it to be in cans, right?).
The downside – and of course there is one – is that this deal is only available in the UK, with Amazon refusing to ship the brew anywhere else in the world. What makes this particularly bad is that you just know the Brits are going to drink this one warm… and that’s just a waste of good beer.
