Now, if this isn’t your first PC gaming rodeo, this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to you. The boxed retail copies of Bethesda‘s newest wasteland survival game, Fallout 4, will not ship with all of the content on the disc; requiring Steam activation and downloads to get it booting.
This is pretty much par for the course when it comes to PC games nowadays, with some games obviously being worse offenders than others; that’s right Metal Gear, that shade was intended for you! When Vice President of Bethesda, Pete Hines, was pressed on why this was so, it eventually all came back to piracy reasons.
“PC requires activation on Steam. Console does not. Console ship on Blu-rays, PC ships on DVDs,” Hines said on Twitter, responding to agitated fans by saying “Well we’ve been doing it this way more or less for 10+ years. Seems to be doing ok. Lots of people bought Skyrim, Wolfenstein, etc.”
No word is yet available on how large the download of addition content will be but we’ll all know for sure when the game goes live November 10.
