Now seems like a good time to grab a new console, as Sony announces a price drop for the PS4. Originally priced at AU$549.95, starting today you can pick one up for AU$479.95 (RRP), and some retailers are dropping the price even further. It still doesn’t quite bring us in-line with other countries, but it’s a step in the right direction.
The decision comes from the higher-ups at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, with president and CEO Jim Ryan “delighted” to offer the PS4 at its “best-ever value” just in time for Christmas:
With this year’s biggest blockbusters and next year’s best exclusives such as UNCHARTED 4: A Thief’s End set to thrill players, there has never been a better time to join the PS4 community. Also, watch out for an amazing range of Ultimate Player Edition Bundles including the 1TB PS4 and some of the biggest games of the year, offering even greater value.
…amusingly, Australia is getting this “European price drop” before it’s actually been confirmed for the UK and European nations.
Sony has also told us it’s “enhancing the PS4 ecosystem”, by releasing more software for the console, improving PlayStation Network services and – of course – introducing PlayStation VR (formerly Project Morpheus), to expand the PlayStation world into virtual reality.
The price drop takes effect today, so your preferred local retailer should be ready to sell you a cheap console. Do shop around a bit, though – that AU$479.95 price point is only a recommendation, which means some retailers might be more expensive, but others will be even cheaper.
