Itching for some more StarCraft action? Don’t want to wait for the launch of Legacy of the Void next month? Your time is now! StarCraft II: Whispers of Oblivion, the three-mission prologue campaign, is available right now, absolutely free.
Whispers of Oblivion fills the gap between Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void, and should whet your appetite for the next big RTS release. Your task: Unravel the final piece of the Xel’naga prophecy. Simple enough, right?
If you want in on this (and why wouldn’t you?), open up your Battle.net desktop app, select StarCraft II and install the starter pack. It’ll all download automatically for you, and you’ll be playing in no time. (Obviously, if you don’t have Battle.net on your PC, you should grab that first – and remember, it’s free as well!)
The new content comes bundled up with Patch 3.0 for StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm, which also brings “a host of new additions and improvements to the game”. Blizzard has posted the full patch notes, but key things to take away include the introduction of a 64-bit version, a completely revamped user interface, and a few tweaks to the chat system that may well have broken more things than they fixed.
Legacy of the Void is due out on November 10, with Blizzard claiming it is the final chapter in the StarCraft II saga. It’s available for preorder right now, and you do not need any previous StarCraft games to play.
