The studio’s David “DeeJ” Dague explains that if you choose to spend cash, it’s going to a good place:
Our plan is to use these new items to bolster the service provided by our live team for another full year, as they grow and create more robust and engaging events that we’ll announce later this year. It has been, and continues to be, our goal to deliver updates to the game. Going forward, our live team is also looking to grow beyond vital updates and improvements to focus on world events, experiences, and feature requests.
It’s only a tiny change, really – and not something that’s likely to affect the majority of people – but if you do want to show fellow Destiny fans how you’re feeling, you now have a new option (or 18, technically).
The changes kick in from October 13, as former special requisitions manager Tess Everis returns to the Tower at the head of the Eververse Trading Company.
Right now, you can purchase anything in-game with a currency known as Glimmer – but that’s not the case for this new content. Instead, you’ll need to stock up on Silver, a new currency that you can only gather by making cash purchases through your console.
To start things off, Bungie is offering your first taste for free – you’ll be provided with enough Silver to “purchase an emote or two” so you can “become legend through the power of dance”. Of course, it’s entirely optional – you can keep your gifted Silver in your wallet, if that’s what you’d prefer.
If you’re not interested in what Tess has to offer, you won’t ever be forced to pluck an item off of her shelf. You’ll still receive updates to the game, and you won’t lose a Crucible encounter or fail to clear a Raid because you didn’t have the right Eververse Trading Company emote equipped.
The news follows hot on the heels of the launch of Destiny‘s latest expansion, The Taken King, out now for PS4 and Xbox One. The new Silver marketplace will launch on October 13, complete with all the details you need to know about price and availability.
