Did you accidentally forget to back Shenmue 3? Well, even though the Kickstarter has ended (breaking records in the process), you can still throw money at the eagerly-anticipated game. Ys Net will happily accept every cent.
The developer has opened up another round of crowdfunding via the Shenmue website, so if you either didn’t support it through Kickstarter (or if you want to support it again), you’ve got the option.
The official site explains:
So many people told us they could not pledge on Kickstarter, or could not make the deadline, and have asked for a PayPal page for another opportunity to contribute to Shenmue 3. So here we go.
The “Slacker Backer” campaign is running until December 31, and – just like the Kickstarter – will feature Stretch Goals to make even more of your Shenmue 3 dreams come true. There are also a selection of tiered rewards carried over from the Kickstarter campaign, including the Collector’s Edition and the Trial Version.
In July, the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter (which was officially revealed on-stage at E3 2015) wrapped up after raising more than US$6.3 million in funding, making it the most funded Kickstarter game ever. The original goal? A measly US$2m. We’re not sure if this extension is necessarily to allow fans to support the game more, or to provide Ys Net with more funds.
Shenmue 3 is planned for release for PC and PS4 in 2017 as a digital download – it’s unclear whether a physical version will hit shops or merely be offered as a reward to backers.
