Former Parramatta NRL star Jarryd Hayne has had a big 2015. He’s successfully made the jump to the NFL (attempting to score a spot on the San Francisco 49ers), both in the real world and now also in the virtual space, as EA confirms he will play a part in Madden 16‘s Ultimate Team mystery Box.
In a poetic twist, it was EA‘s Madden series that inspired Hayne to try out NFL in the first place. He now lines up alongside team mate (and first-choice running back) Reggie Bush in the latest instalment of the game, with his stats right up there with the series greats – a 95 in Acceleration, a 93 for Carry and a 90 Juke Move.
An EA spokesman expresses the studio’s delight at snagging the local boy:
We’re celebrating the Aussie phenom, and self-professed Madden NFL fan, with a special Madden Ultimate Team item that’s available in-game right now.
Hayne’s inclusion in the Madden 16 Ultimate Team Mystery Box means that a limited number of lucky fans have been able to add him to their in-game teams – but if you missed out, there’s still hope. Some gamers may wish to trade the Aussie for someone else (we don’t know quite why), or he may pop up in the auction house, so keep an eye out!
Fans of the 49ers have quickly adopted the young Aussie as someone they want to see more of, despite him not making the official roster yet: His 38 jersey already sits in pride of place in the 49ers official retail store in San Francisco.
