Mad Max takes Avalanche to the wasteland

As Australians, it’s our patriotic duty to be excited about the upcoming Mad Max game (even though it’s being developed in Sweden…). That means that this new video – showing the making of the real-world Magnum Opus car from the game – ticks all the boxes. Take a look, it should tick yours, too!

Believe it or not, Mad Max is out next week, having snuck up on us like some sort of sneaky wasteland creature.

The video shows the Avalanche Studios team working with West Coast Customs to create Max’s iconic wheels, an “offroad-lookin’ mean vehicle” made up of a hybrid between a Maverick and a Ford Ranger.

…so the game looks great. The car looks great. Something else that looks really great though is Wasteland Weekend, the world’s largest post-apocalyptic festival. For a few days, the Mojave Desert is transformed into a scene straight out of Mad Max, as thousands of people gather to celebrate survival after the downfall of society.

Mad Max is out for PC, PS4 and Xbox One on September 1. The next Wasteland Weekend kicks off in California September 24-27.
