Get ready, folks: Nintendo has (finally) confirmed a western release date for Japanese cult smash Yo-Kai Watch. First revealed at E3, the monster-catcher is set to hit both 3DS handhelds and cable television, with an animated series coming to Disney digital channels a little later this year… and there’s still more.
If you’ve not yet heard of Yo-Kai Watch, you should probably change that. It’s a ridiculously popular franchise in Japan, selling 8 million units and making more than $2 billion in retail sales. More than just a video game, it’s also moved into toys, anime and manga, some of which is set to spill over into the west.
For instance: A new manga, written and drawn by Noriyuki Konishi, is on the way from VIZ Media. It should be available on a bi-monthly basis in good comic shops from November, and Hasbro is making a bunch of toys and games that centre on collectible Yo-Kai medals.
…but Yo-Kai Watch itself? Mark November 6 in your calendars, and you’re good to go.
(At this stage, things are only confirmed for the US/North America, but we can cross our fingers for Australian/European equivalents – and we’ll definitely keep you posted!)
