PAX Australia is just over two months away (some 78 days, if you’re counting), and we’re starting to hear details about just who will be headed to Melbourne for the celebration of gaming culture. This year should be big, with Sony confirming that PlayStation will be there – making its first official appearance at the event.
For whatever reason, Sony chose not to participate in either of the previous two local PAX events, instead keeping an eye on things from the sidelines, as Sony Computer Entertainment Australia Managing Director Michael Ephraim explains:
We have watched PAX grow from strength to strength in the past few years in Australia, which is fantastic for our industry.
This year we are so thrilled to be at PAX as there are so many exciting things going on. Being the 20th Anniversary of PlayStation also gives us the opportunity to celebrate with our loyal fans at the show as well.
It’s not that PlayStation games have never been on show at PAX Aus – just last year, Media Molecule organised its own attendance at the event, showcasing Tearaway – but Sony has never hosted its own booth.
Guy Blomberg, PAX Australia Content & Community Manager explains:
We’re excited to welcome Sony Computer Entertainment Australia to the show floor of PAX Aus this year. We’ve worked closely with PlayStation before to feature their developers and curate panels, and having a physical booth at the show has been the biggest request from PAX fans in previous years. We can’t wait for everyone to see what’s in store!
PAX Australia hits the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from October 30 – November 1 this year. Three-day tickets have sold out, but there are still single-day passes available for all three days.
