It seems that EA Australia didn’t think it was enough that FIFA 16 would include female athletes for the first time in franchise history. The publisher wants to put one of the Matildas – the Australian FIFA Women’s World Cup team – right on the box, alongside male star Lionel Messi.
The news comes in the same week as the real-world Matildas scored a 1-0 win over competition favourites Brazil, securing their place in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 quarter finals and achieving the country’s first ever knock-out game victory at any senior FIFA World Cup.
With all of the girls equally qualified for cover duties, EA Australia is giving the decision back to the fans. You can pick the first female athlete in FIFA franchise history to grace the box art – just by making the tough choice between Katrina Gorry, Stephanie Catley and Kyah Simon (who, incidentally, scored the winning goal against Brazil).
Head to the EA Sports Australia website to cast your vote – you’ve got until July 6.
