Okay, okay, it’s official. Bethesda has finally confirmed something we all knew – it’s been working on Fallout 4, and the game’s headed to PS4, Xbox One and Windows PC. And yes, we have the first-look in-game trailer, just for you.
Despite fans theorising that the new game could be coming to older platforms as well, it seems that Bethesda is sticking with the newest generation of consoles. The theory that the game would be based in Boston seems to hold water, however (that’s Scollay Square you can see there).
The first Fallout hit shelves back in 1997, with the game making the leap to 3D in Fallout 3 in 2008 – since then, we’ve seen Fallout: New Vegas, developed by the team at Obsidian Entertainment and released in 2010.
We’ve been hearing about Fallout 4 since 2013, when it was first mentioned in leaked developer documents. Since then, we’ve seen more than our fair share of hoaxes and false starts. Earlier this month, an artist updated his online resume mentioning a cinematic trailer created by Guillermo del Toro’s Mirada Studios.
The biggest surprise about today’s reveal is the timing. We all knew we’d be seeing Fallout 4 announced this year, but everyone had anticipated the news to come as part of Bethesda‘s first-ever E3 press conference on June 14 in Los Angeles.
…still, if this is what we’ve gotten today, what else is the studio keeping up its collective sleeves?
