Adding to the ever growing rolling snow ball that is the horror genre, Sony has given us another look at What Remains of Edith Finch. However, this time around, the game takes a slightly different approach, in a similar vein to television shows such as American Horror Story. What Remains of Edith Finch is a game that tells multiple short stories about different members of the Finch family rather than the usual lengthy narrative we’re used to in more story-driven games.
The game, as far as we know, is set within the Finch family home. Whether or not it’s a “haunted house” story is yet to be seen (it would be nice to see another angle taken though). The Finch house is unique in the sense that not only have the family been living there for multiple generations spanning the last century or so, but each generation has added onto the building as they have come into ownership of it. Making for a rather eclectic building for the player to explore.
That’s the game in a nutshell: a surreal experience that’s grounded in a familiar world. The deaths in each of the stories are a little bizarre but the really strange thing is death itself.
Each short story will tell the unique history of specific family members, how they met their demise and how the remaining family reacted to their death.
