Former WWE Diva AJ Lee is giving away a scholarship to an upcoming Girls Make Games camp, encouraging young women (aged between 11-14) to get into programming, designing, and generally making games!
Girls Make Games says:
We’re thrilled to announce an amazing collaboration with the wonderful AJ Brooks of WWE fame. AJ is a champion both in and out of the ring, fighting to bring more girls into STEM fields. An avid gamer herself, GMG is proud to team up with her to announce the AJ Brooks Scholarship Contest!
We missed this announcement when it was first made late last month, but – if you’re interested and act fast – you can still post your entries! All you need to do is create a one minute video of a game design concept that you’d like to make, and send that in to ajscholar-at-girlsmakegames.com by May 15th.
The winner will be invited to attend the Chicago Girls Make Games camp, free of charge, completely sponsored by AJ Lee! The camp itself is pretty awesome (I’m rather jealous) – a 3 week / 15 day, hands-on program that teaches beginners and experienced girls alike how to create their own game art and code. And it doesn’t end when you go home, either: GMG also offers continued mentorship after the camp ends… and the best teams are given the opportunity to make fully-fledged games!
The competition is open to girls aged 11-14 who are able to get to Chicago (the prize is non-transferable) – and you can enter as many times as you like – so get in now! You’ve only got a few days left!
Of course, if you can’t get to Chicago, you don’t have to miss out. Sure, you won’t be up for this particular scholarship, but Girls Make Games camps are available across the US, with the occasional bonus popping up around the world (including Australia!). We’ll keep you posted.
