Ladies and gentlemen, the promised time is now. It’s been quite a while since we’ve heard anything from the Pure Pwnage camp. Today though, we have something brand new and very special from Jeremy, Kyle and the team: The first proper trailer from the upcoming movie!
n00bs! teh movie is in full production swing and we wanted to send you an update on how it’s pwning. We’re halfway through principal photography and it’s already clear we’re making the best movie ever!
Pure Pwnage started life as a sort of mockumentary webseries more than 10 years ago. It told the story of Jeremy “teh_pwnerer”, a self-proclaimed pro-gamer, who lives in his mother’s basement. Each episode was produced from the perspective of Jeremy’s brother Kyle, an aspiring film-maker, who decided to document Jeremy’s adventures both in the gaming world and outside, among the “normal” people.
Canadian broadcaster Showcase also producing eight episodes of Pure Pwnage for broadcast television, which followed a similar, but slightly different storyline.
The series was put on “indefinite hold” in 2011, but resurfaced a year later with creators Jarett Cale and Geoff Lapaire announcing plans for a movie – the crowdfunded project was more than 280% funded and fans started frothing at the mouth at the idea of PP returning to their screens.
…unfortunately, then everything seemed to go quiet for the next few years. Cale and Lapaire kept fans updated sporadically through livestreams and social media posts, but today is the first real sign of life we’ve seen from the project.
Happily, it’s a good’un, promising a “Summer 2015” release date for the film. Remember, that’s in Canadian time, so they really mean we should see a Pure Pwnage movie “by the end of the year”… hopefully, at least.
