Minecraft has officially added a new character to console versions of the world-builder. If blue-shirted Steve doesn’t resonate, hopefully new girl Alex will be a more comfortable choice!
Mojang‘s Owen Hill explains that everybody loves Steve and his stubble (he’s considered “probably the most famous minecrafter in the world”), but:
Jolly old Steve doesn’t really represent the diversity of our playerbase. For that reason, we’re giving all players opportunity to play with an Alex skin instead. She brings thinner arms, redder hair, and a ponytail.
Alex has actually been lurking around the game as a default skin since last September saw the 1.8 update rolled out, but she’s been a PC exclusive until now.
Similarly, The Simpsons skin pack is also hitting PlayStation versions of the game this week – the extra content has been available on Xbox 360 and Xbox One since earlier this year. Even though there are still differences between the platforms, it’s still nice to see developers putting in the effort to bring everything into line.
Alex and the rest of the new Minecraft content should hit PC and console mid-this-week – so it might be there already!
