It’s been a long time since we heard about the cinematic Tomb Raider reboot – and we mean a long time. The project was first announced back in 2011, but it seems everything we knew then is now different, as is the way of the film industry.
More recent news (from 2013) still seems accurate – co-produced/financed by MGM, with a storyline that stands apart from the earlier films. It’s now been revealed that the upcoming (untitled) film will be a telling of the Lara Croft origin story – pretty much what you’d expect following the success of the 2013 Tomb Raider video game.
Evan Daugherty has been brought onboard to write the script – he’s worked recently on films like 2014’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, as well as Snow White and the Huntsman and Divergent – while Warner Bros will be taking on distributor duties.
No actor has been announced for the role of Lara Croft at this stage, but Angelina Jolie is not expected to return.
We don’t know quite when the film will hit cinemas, but Deadline reports the project is being fast-tracked, so we’re hoping calendar-related news isn’t too far away.
