Nintendo Australia is about to make a bunch of local gamers very happy, as the company announces plans to restock “limited quantities” of sold-out amiibo figures to retailers in Australia and New Zealand.
With 29 figures currently available in the Super Smash Bros collection, Nintendo admits that “many amiibo have become hard to find in stores” – a problem that faces gamers around the world. Rather than simply producing more figures, Nintendo has confirmed that it will actually cannibalise other regions, bringing characters Down Under that may feature “non-AU/NZ packaging” (sorry, the figures themselves are exactly the same).
We’re not quite sure when these new figures will start arriving in stores, but Nintendo‘s getting ready for March 21, when the next wave of amiibo hits shelves – the first of the Super Mario Collection, including new models of Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi and Bowser, and introducing Toad to the toys-to-life category.
If you’ve already got one of those characters from Super Smash Bros, rest assured that crossover characters will all have the same functionality across all compatible games, so if you want to save your pennies, you can simply pick which design you like the best.
…but wait, there’s more: Robin, Lucina, Charizard, Pac-Man, Ness and Wario are also joining the Super Smash Bros collection some time in April, bringing the year’s anticipated amiibo total up to somewhere around a bazillion. Remember, it’s been confirmed that these cute little figures will actually help you unlock playable game demos, so even if you don’t have the games in question, they might be worth checking out.
