Sorry guys, Rayman will not be appearing in Super Smash Bros. Wii U, despite a very convincing video that popped up over the weekend. Turns out that it was nothing more than an incredibly detailed bit of fan fiction, and its creator never expected to get such a massive reaction.
The video – a reported leak from Nintendo – showed Ubisoft‘s Rayman as a selectable character in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, prompting polarised reactions from fans across the globe. For everyone thrilled to see Rayman’s appearance, there was someone else devastated by the inclusion.
The original shaky, off-screen footage showed upcoming Smash Bros DLC character Mewtwo (described as an “experiment” by series creator Masahiro Sakurai) as well Rayman, hidden within the existing character roster.
…it’s since been taken offline and replaced by a new video, showing exactly how Omni achieved such an impressive hoax. (Spoiler: It’s not a simple process.)
So I just want to officially say I'm really sorry for dashing people's hopes. I didn't see all of this coming. o_o
