Gary Owens, voice of Roger Ramjet, dies aged 80

Gary Owens, voice of Space Ghost and Roger Ramjet, narrator on Space Quest IV and VI and the announcer on Laugh-In has died, aged 80.

Over a sixty-year career, Owens reportedly lent his voice to more than 3,000 cartoons, bringing characters like Powdered Toast Man, Blue Falcon and even Batman to life, and he was also heard in television gems The Super Mario Bros. Super Show and Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Owens also worked in radio, co-wrote three comedy albums, and contributed to Sesame Street, The Electric Company and Rocky & Bullwinkle. Best known for the title role in Space Ghost, he reprised the character for a 2011 crossover event in Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

A diabetic since the age of 8, Owens died in his home in Los Angeles from complications related to the condition.
