Rampant speculation- which always leads to good things- had people believing that shields would be absent from FromSoftware‘s upcoming souls-like game Bloodborne. This was due mostly to all promotional videos showing players wielding two-handed weapons or gripping a firearm where the trusty shield would normally reside.
Stomping on speculation Masaaki Yamagiwa, a producer at Sony’s Japan Studio, has confirmed that shields will make an appearance, succinctly saying “There are shields in the game”. Yamagiwa continued on to clarified that death will come on swift wings to those that turtle and try to play the game like a Souls title.
In stark contrast to the Souls games, where turtling is a tried and true method, Bloodborne will punish players who aren’t constantly moving and looking more opportunities to be aggressive.
“We wanted to encourage players to not hide and wait, but instead be more aggressive and pro-active in battle,” Yamagiwa said.
Bloodborne will release exclusively for the PlayStation 4 on March 24.
