Plague Inc fans raise $76,000 to help stop ebola

Gamers have spent more than just a lot of idle time in Plague Inc – fans of the virus-spreader have also donated more than US$76,000 to charities across the world, working together to stop the spread of ebola. The game has also been used by the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, to illustrate a potential international outbreak.

The team at Ndemic Creations has been blown away by the support of more than 800,000 players, who have visited plagueinc.com/stopebola and chipped in a few bucks here and there.

The money raised has gone to charities such as the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, which will put the donations towards improved health services, preventative education, safe and dignified burials, contact tracing, survival kits and more. Brendan Paddy, Head of Communications for the Disasters Emergency Committee is very pleased with the support shown by gamers:

We’d like to thank the amazing Plague Inc. players for giving so generously to the DEC Ebola Crisis Appeal!. Your kind gifts will help our member agencies in the critical fight to stop the spread of Ebola. They’ll use the donations to provide much needed educational support, hygiene kits and support medical treatment for those in urgent need.

Of course, it’s not too late to show your support: Plague Inc is out now for iOS and Android, with big brother Plague Inc Evolved available for PC and Mac (and coming soon to Xbox One). Even if you haven’t played, the donations page is also open, at plagueinc.com/stopebola.
