The reasons to own a TV without a console attached in Australia are becoming fewer and fewer, as Sony Australia announces that ABC iview is available for PS4 from today onwards. (Got older hardware? Don’t fret: The latest version of iview will launch of PS3 in coming weeks!)
The news shouldn’t really be surprising – ABC iview first launched on PlayStation 3 back in 2009, as the first Australian on-demand tv service on gaming consoles.
The new app brings all your favourite shows to PS4 via an easily navigable, cinematic big-screen interface, explains Rebecca Heap, ABC head of TV Strategy and Digital Products:
In 2014 ABC iview was the number one internet TV service in Australia with more than 20 million plays per month and a 29% year on year increase in weekly program plays. We are delighted to be launching ABC iview on PS4 and will continue to be the home of Australian stories for our audience on all their screens with the best user experience.
The service is available anywhere in Australia, offering full-length catch-up programs from all of the ABC’s TV channels, as well as programs exclusive to iview and live-streaming of ABC News 24. The new-look iview app is currently available on FreeviewPlus certified devices, and is headed to connected TV devices (including Xbox One) in early 2015.
