That Dragon, Cancer, the game designed as a living love letter to Joel Green, who lost his four-year battle with brain cancer lst year, has been successfully funded. The original goal of US$85,000 was smashed, as the project raised a total of US$104,491 from 3,687 backers.
Joel’s parents, developers Ryan and Amy Green write:
Thank you for everything you’ve done, including sharing the project, supporting us financially, and contributing your own story to the game.
The game has been in development for several years now as Joel’s family and friends work through their loss. The crowdfunding project was just part of fundraising efforts for the game. The family had secured US$75,000 through personal loans and Indie Fund backing, but it would take a total of US$145,000 for the game to be completed. Now, with Kickstarter support, the game is that much closer to release.
That Dragon, Cancer is expected some time in 2015, for PC, Mac, Linux and Ouya.
