Make of it what you will: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has again turned its attention to gamers. This time, the activist group has created its own customised Minecraft servers, where animals are treated with love and respect.
PETA‘s previous outings into the game world include gems like Super Tanooki Skin 2D and Super Tofu Boy, while the group has also taken offence at whaling in Assassin’s Creed and killing rats in Battlefield. This new approach is really quite peaceful.
True to PETA’s mission—and unlike on other Minecraft servers—no animals, not even digital ones, can be harmed on our dedicated Minecraft server! Visitors to PETA’s custom-made digital island will explore vast expanses of landscapes where the animals of Minecraft roam free. They can also visit extensive vegetable and flower gardens, walk through a fantastic re-creation of PETA’s HQ, and discover an abandoned and decaying slaughterhouse.
The server officially launches on Saturday, November 15 – and to celebrate, PETA is hosting a pro-animal rally and a series of in-game “build-off” competitions. We don’t see this going badly at all. (For more details on how to connect to the server, head to the PETA blog, but be warned, it often contains intentionally-confronting imagery.)
