Rico Rodriguez is making a comeback: Just Cause 3 is officially headed our way in 2015, says Square Enix and Avalanche Studios. The vast, open-world adventure is the follow-up to 2010’s Just Cause 2, and continues the story that was originally started back in 2006 with the original Just Cause.
We’ve been waiting for this moment ever since Just Cause 2 was released. This is the culmination of a decade’s worth of open-world evolution and innovation. In JUST CAUSE 3, we’ve sent Rico to a beautiful Mediterranean archipelago. He is of course bringing his Grapple and Parachute, both with game-changing upgrades, as well as the brand new Wingsuit. JUST CAUSE 3 truly represents the next generation of chaotic sandbox fun, and we can’t wait to show you more next year.
Just Cause 3 is headed to Xbox One, PS4 and PC, planned for some time in 2015.
This is the first we’ve heard officially about the game, but a handful of screenshots were leaked last week. The problem for Square Enix wasn’t so much that the big reveal was ruined, but that people were getting the wrong idea about the game. The early shots hinted that the game might be free-to-play, which Avalanche has been quick to point out is not the case.
To be perfectly clear: Just Cause 3 will be available in 2015 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC. It will be distributed as a retail box and digital download. It is not a Free To Play game. It does not feature in-game micro transactions.
Does that mean we’ll release the game and call it quits? Nope. Beyond launch, we are likely to look into DLC packs and items as part of our ambition to support Just Cause 3 and its players for many years to come, but until that time we’re completely focused on making the best Just Cause game we possibly can. Rest assured it will be a huge, fully packed and extremely rewarding experience right out of the gate.
