With the first batch of DLC for Mario Kart 8 hitting November 13 (mark your calendars!), Nintendo is rolling out a downloadable update for the game to make sure your console’s ready. The new – free – update will make sure the game can handle the influx of new cars and tracks, but it will also add support for Amiibo, the company’s upcoming toy range.
It’s early days yet, and the Mario Kart 8 update will not add support for all for the Amiibo characters on the way, but it’ll unlock a handful to get you started. At this stage, those include Kirby, Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Link, Captain Falcon, Samus and Fox McCloud, with each one unlocking corresponding outfits for your Mii racer.
Tapping Kirby’s toy to your Wii U gamepad will unlock a pink-themed outfit for your Mario Kart Mii, complete with an adorable, smiling Kirby-styled helmet to wear.
The update rolls out on November 13, the same day as the DLC lands for Mario Kart 8, while the toys themselves won’t be ready for a week or so after that. The first wave arrives in Australia on November 29, with the rest following along on December 12. Dates and prices will, inevitably, vary by region.
