GOG confirms digital relaunch of LucasArts classics

Online gaming retailer GOG.com has confirmed that it holds “the holy grail of classic gaming”, welcoming a suite of LucasArts games onto the service. The team-up with Disney will see the release of 20+ cult-classic titles launching over the next little while – and all of them will be DRM-free.

We first heard about this deal earlier this week, after enterprising fans started snooping around the GOG forums, but this is the official confirmation from the publisher.

We know you waited long for this moment, so we want to reunite you with those golden oldies with as little delay as possible.

GOG is starting things off with a bang, publishing six games straight off the bat. And yes, both Star Wars: X-Wing and Star Wars: TIE Fighter are included.

While some of these games have already been made available via other digital networks, three of this initial launch lineup have never been published digitally – you’ll be able to play special editions of both Star Wars: X-Wing and Star Wars: TIE Fighter and the original Sam & Max Hit the Road on your modern gaming PC for the first time ever. And yes, we’re promised things will work “with no fuss”.

Keep an eye out – GOG is promising still more games to come in the next little while – let’s face it, LucasArts has plenty to choose from!
