Just when you thought it was safe to to view things in night vision again, Red Barrels, developer of voyeuristic fright-fest Outlast, announced they’re working on a follow up title. In an interview with horror website Bloody Disgusting, designer and co-founder Philippe Morin said that after finishing the Xbox One version of Outlast in June, the team “quickly realized we had at least another horror game in us.”
“The game will be a survival horror experience and it will take place in the same universe as Outlast but it will have different characters and a different setting” Morin said, “but we might go back to Mount Massive Asylum one day, but for now we have new ideas and themes we’d like to explore and we think we’re cooking up something special.”
If it’s more details you’re after, Morin was unsurprisingly candid. All he said was that the next installment would be an “emotional ride” and that the studio wants to push the boundaries of horror, to the point where even the devs are scared. If you’re already practicing your framing techniques and stuffing handfuls batteries into your pockets, you may want to slow down, as there is to timeframe on the release yet.
