UPDATE: The PlayStation Network is reportedly online again, after a brief downtime earlier today (which Sony has not really explained yet). The Ask PlayStation Twitter has not yet been updated, but the official PSN status page shows everything is good to go.
ORIGINAL MESSAGE: Remember how PlayStation Network was taken offline earlier this week for routine maintenance? We were able to tell you about that in advance because it was scheduled. It’s now down again, and nobody seems quite sure why.
The PSN status page is typically less-than-informative. It lets you know that the service is currently offline, but not much more than that.
PSN is currently offline, and we are hard at work to resume service. At this time an estimate as to when PSN will be online is unavailable; however, we will update this article as soon as there’s additional information. If you would like to receive a notice when PSN is fully restored, be sure to follow the official PlayStation Twitter account and our support Twitter account, @AskPlayStation.
Predictably, fans are getting a little frustrated with the downtime, which follows an unexpected outage earlier this month as well as the scheduled maintenance. Twitter isn’t offering many more details either:
We’re aware some of you are unable to connect to the PSN. Thanks for your patience as we investigate.
