Warlords of Draenor is the fifth expansion set to hit World of Warcraft. To make sure gamers are up to date, Blizzard is giving all existing WoW accounts copies of all previous expansions. Put simply: All current subscribers and anyone who reactivates a lapsed subscription will be able to play through content from The Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm and Mists of Pandaria, all ready for the November launch of Warlords.
There are other things going on to get gamers ready for the new expansion: World of Warcraft will never be the same. Patch 6.0.2 has hit Azeroth, bringing with it the Iron Horde. And, as it happens, those gamers are turning out in force, with WoW subscriber numbers getting a hefty boost in the past three months.
Sure, the 6.8 was a decrease of 800,000 fans since the last time we were given subscriber numbers, but it’s still a significant show of faith in the almost 10-year old game.
Current subscribers are treated to the following features, as part of the Iron Tide update (Patch 6.0.2):
- “Iron Horde Incursion” World Event: players looking to upset the Iron Horde invasion can journey to the Blasted Lands to face down the onslaught and venture into the revamped five-player version of the Upper Blackrock Spire dungeon
- New Character Models: several of the game’s original races are new and improved, with increased resolution as well as updated animations and facial expressions
- Interface Improvements: questing is now easier than ever with an updated quest log and inventory changes, including a Toy Box for the fun items players acquire through their adventures
- Character and Class Changes: myriad character- and class-specific updates are now live, making this a great time for players to refamiliarize themselves with their characters ahead of the expansion’s November 13 launch
