Brace yourself for the second wave of the Season of Smash, as Nintendo finally announces the release date for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. It’s a much-anticipated release, not just for the game itself, but also because it heralds the launch of Nintendo‘s interactive Amiibo figurines.
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U – the first HD release for the series – is hitting Australian stores (both retail and digital) on December 6. If you’d prefer to play with a GameCube controller, there’s a nifty limited edition bundle of both the game and the controller adapter, which will see you able to attach up to four GameCube or WaveBird controllers to your Wii U console.
(Don’t have a GameCube controller? You’re in luck! A standalone black GameCube Controller – Super Smash Bros. Edition – will also be available from December 6, and you can pick up the standalone Controller Adapter for Wii U from Nintendo Customer Service.
Now, the toys. Confusing things a little, the first wave of twelve Amiibo figures launches one week earlier than Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, on November 29, with a further six following one week after the game, on December 12. Amiibo figures have an RRP of AU$17.99, with the first wave including Mario, Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Link, Fox, Samus, Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, Pikachu, Kirby and Marth. The second features Zelda, Diddy Kong, Luigi, Little Mac, Pit and Captain Falcon.
More Amiibo will be launched across 2015, with Nintendo already planning a number of additional games to use the NFC technology.
