The Vanishing of Ethan Carter appears on Steam

The video game world’s gotten a little bit spookier today, as The Vanishing of Ethan Carter pops up on Steam. The first major project from The Astronauts is a first-person story-driven mystery game… there’s no guns, no explosions, and no combat at all.

This is particularly noteworthy because a bunch of the team at The Astronauts – Adrian Chmielarz, Andrzej Poznanski and Michal Kosieradzki – formerly worked at People Can Fly, the studio responsible for Bulletstorm and Painkiller.

Now though, they’re trying something different. The Vanishing of Ethan Carter puts you in the shoes of “occult-minded” private detective Paul Prospero, as you communicate with the dead to explore the mystery of a missing boy. Plus there’s a dark, ancient force lurking in Red Creek Valley, but you don’t need to worry yourself about that…

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is inspired by the weird fiction of the early 20th century, and it’s available right now on Steam, with a PS4 release headed our way some time next year.
