At the recent Tokyo Game Show, Hideo Kojima showed off a whole lot of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Somewhat predictably, it was all in Japanese… but today, Konami has dusted off the Babelfish and released three chunks of gameplay footage translated into English for you.
Two of these videos grant an insight into the open-world universe of The Phantom Pain – showing how Snake works with AI-controlled partners. Meet DD, the eyepatch-wearing dog, and Quiet, a supernatural sniper.
It’s worth noting that after those videos came to light, Kojima has explained that these AI companions can die during the experience of the game. Just because you start a task with either DD or Quiet doesn’t mean you’ll finish the task with them – and if they’re shot mid-mission, they won’t be coming back.
The third video is simply 20 minutes of direct-feed gameplay, now narrated by Konami in English, so you’ll have a better idea of what’s going on.
