Australia and New Zealand are getting their hands on the New Nintendo 3DS and New 3DS XL models before the end of the year – and before almost anyone else in the world. Nintendo has confirmed that the oft-neglected countries will be the first outside of Japan to get the new handheld consoles.
Both devices will be available from November 21, 2014. The news came via Australia’s first Nintendo Direct presentation, which revealed the New 3DS would be available in white, while the 3DS XL is due in both Metallic Black and Metallic Blue. Instead of going all-out on colour schemes, Nintendo is releasing 20 different interchangeable faceplates at launch.
Tom Enoki, new Managing Director of Nintendo Australia confirmed that the New 3DS will retail for a recommended AU$219.95, with the New 3DS XL recommended at AU$249.95. Neither model comes with an AC adapter, so you’ll either have to use your old one, or buy a new separate charger for AU$14.95. If you’d prefer a charging dock, that’s also priced at AU$14.95 (RRP) for both models.
Nintendo will be showing off its latest devices at Sydney’s EB Expo from October 3-5, but it will be strictly a hands-off affair. If you’d like to spend some time playing with a New 3DS or New 3S XL, you’ll have to head to PAX Australia at the end of October.
…meanwhile, if you’re in North America or Europe, sit tight: The new handhelds are coming to you some time in 2015.
