It’s not just third-party retailers and journalists who reveal things early – Nintendo UK has apparently let its own cat out of the bag, showing off some upcoming downloadable content for Mario Kart 8. It’s the first time we’ve heard of it, but we’re already super excited.
We’re actually being promised two chunks of DLC. The first is due out in November, and features content from The Legend of Zelda. New playable racers include Link, Tanooki Mario and Cat Peach, as well as four new vehicles such as the Blue Falcon from F-Zero. The best part though? Eight new courses, offered as two different cups. No details just yet, but we’ve spotted inspirations from F-Zero, Excitebike, Skyward Sword and Animal Crossing, as well as the return of Wario’s Goldmine from Mario Kart Wii.
We’ll have to wait a little longer to get the second pack, themed around Animal Crossing. New drivers include Villager, Isabelle and Dry Bowser, and again comes with four new vehicles and eight new courses. Because this one’s still a while off, we’ve got even fewer details to share.
Nintendo is also offering a handy bonus if you pick up both packs (either separately or as a discounted bundle) – if you’ve ever wanted to play as either Yoshi or Shy Guy in eight different colours, now’s your chance. (Literally, now – even though the packs aren’t out for a while, you’ll get the different colourways as soon as you purchase the DLC.)
Prices will vary by region, but at the moment, we’re seeing each pack priced at US$7.99 or US$11.99 for both – and that, my friends, is almost the definition of “bargain”.
