Apparently, the team at CD Projekt RED are getting a little bit tired of everybody describing their game as being “beautiful”. It’s not our fault! The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt really is one of the most amazing-looking games we’ve ever seen… but of course there’s more to it than that.
Let’s put the jaw-dropping graphics aside for a moment (did you see that water?!), and focus on the game itself. The Witcher 3 continues the story of Geralt of Rivia, which started more than 20 years ago in a series of fantasy novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski.
The games have picked up where the book left off, continuing the story well beyond the final novel – and while we thought The Witcher and sequel The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings were pretty great, Wild Hunt takes the series to an all-new level.
Looking at the map, it’s more than 30 times larger than the previous game (which was already pretty huge), and it’s full of amazing set-pieces for you to explore. CD Projekt RED has said the game will take 100 hours to play the game to completion – that is, 50 hours of main storyline and 50 hours of quests – but it’ll take even longer if you explore the world “properly”.
The Witcher 3 was originally due out a little later this year, but the sheer size of the project has seen it delayed to February 2015 as the team’s working hard behind the scenes to fine-tune the seemingly never-ending details.
When it finally gets here, you’ll be able to play on Xbox One, PS4 and Windows PC, and you should probably clear your calendar – you might be there a while.
