Carmack to help Minecraft get to Oculus Rift

Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson has apparently reconsidered his opinions regarding the Facebook purchase of Oculus. This means plans to take the blocky world builder to the virtual reality platform are potentially back on the table, and industry veteran John Carmack is eager to help.

At the time, Notch claimed “Facebook creeps me out,” cancelling the then-in-progress talks about porting Minecraft to the Oculus Rift. Now, the creep factor has diminished.

And about now I’m officially over being upset about Facebook buying Oculus. I’m upset about there being a hole in my favorite sock instead.

Carmack, chief technology officer at Oculus was among the first to congratulate Notch for his change of heart:

say the word, ship the source, and i’ll make sure It runs well on you-know-what…

Don’t hold your breath just yet, but this could be a very positive step for people who want to add another dimension to their Minecraft worlds – or who need yet another reason to put a Rift headset on their wishlists.
