Anyone who’s ever had anything to do with Obsidian Entertainment will tell you that the studio is truly, madly, deeply in love with pen and paper RPGs. It’s no real surprise then to learn that the developer has just struck a deal to create games based on the Pathfinder license.
At Obsidian we have a long history of working with the greatest RPG franchises, and we’re thrilled to get to play in the Pathfinder universe now. We’re huge fans and can’t wait to bring what we do in the electronic gaming world to Pathfinder fans everywhere.
Pathfinder has also popped up in comic book series, graphic novels, miniatures, plush toys and clothes, and there’s even an MMO in the works, with Obsidian focussing on electronic games based on the IP.
Paizo CEO Lisa Stevens explains:
Obsidian is a video game developer at the top of its game. Being able to bring that type of experience and passion to Pathfinder can only mean great things, both for our loyal Pathfinder community and for all fans of great CRPG’s.
The long-term licensing partnership with Paizo starts out with a tablet release based on the Pathfinder Adventure Card game. Players are given a character (that is, a deck of cards and a set of stats), and sent on an adventure, fighting to survive in a world beset by magic and evil.
