There’s a new Silent Hill game in the works, and Kojima Productions may have just pulled off one of the best game reveals in recent history, with a little help from Sony at its Gamescom media briefing.
Earlier today, as part of the event, Sony showcased a game called simply P.T. – something we’d not heard of before. Promising to be “the world’s first interactive teaser”, P.T. was available on the PlayStation Store as soon as it was announced. It didn’t take gamers long to figure out that this 1.3GB download was not all that it seemed.
Yes, the PlayStation 4 interactive teaser was for a new game, but it wasn’t for a new IP known as P.T. – instead, it was a Playable Teaser for something completely different. After completing a playthrough, Hideo Kojima’s name appeared on-screen, confusing and delighting fans. Another name popped up: Guillermo del Toro, the man behind Pacific Rim, Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy. The main character then turned around, showing his face for the first time: Norman Reedus, Daryl Dixon from The Walking Dead.
…and then, the final reveal, the title: Silent Hills.
This is, of course, all that we know about the project, which Kojima has been teasing for months. We’re also told that – in typical Kojima fashion – the teaser “has no direct relation to the main title”. It is the first time the developer has worked on a Silent Hill title, and the first new game we’ve seen in the series for two years, after the handheld release Silent Hill: Book of Memories.
