Even though we all knew it was coming, it’s still a little bit crushing for Bungie to confirm that your Destiny beta characters – and all your hard-earned stats – will be wiped before the launch of the full game.
The latest weekly update from the studio crushes all your hopes and dreams of seeing a returning character – and announces that the vaults have been cleaned out, too.
Community manager David “Deej” Dague explains that the team at Bungie have gone through this process many times, and it never gets any easier – “When we reinvent the world where the Guardians live, sometimes we have to leave them behind.”
Game designer Tyson Green continues:
Since the beta, we’ve continued to tune and adjust the game. The way you earn experience has been adjusted up and down a bunch of times. Items have been added and removed. New features toggled. Although there’s no single monumental change, the sum of the tweaks leaves characters from the beta build in strange shape that would be confusing at best, broken at worst.
…but there’s still some good news. Bungie has no plans to retire any more Guardians in the foreseeable future. The one you create when Destiny launches on September 9 “will keep you company for a good, long time,” says Deej.
