The cast of Joss Whedon’s Firefly are preparing for a comeback – but it’s not in a second season of the cult favourite sci-fi western. Instead, we’re promised that the Big Damn Heroes are getting ready for some voice acting, reprising their roles in upcoming strategy RPG Firefly Online.
…and we don’t just mean some of them, either. Developers explain:
Nathan, Alan, Adam, Sean and Ron have already recorded their parts, and Morena, Jewel and Summer are on the schedule and will be in studio soon. And we’re currently working with Gina to find a time for her to record.
That is, of course: Nathan Fillion (Captain Mal), Alan Tudyk (Wash), Adam Baldwin (Jayne), Sean Maher (Dr. Simon Tan), Ron Glass (Shepherd Book), Morena Baccarin (Inara), Jewel Staite (Kaylee), Summer Glau (River Tam), and Gina Torres (Zoe). In other words? The entire 9-person crew of the Serenity is set to return.
We’re also promised a few other cameo appearances – Michael Fairman’s back to play a reportedly “bone-chilling” Niska.
The game was announced at last year’s Comic-Con, so it makes sense that the studios chose this year to make the big cast reveal, but gamers are still a little bit skeptical. Firefly Online is in development at Quantum Mechanix and Spark Plug Games, neither one particularly well-known in gaming circles…
But browncoats are nothing if not optimistic. Firefly Online is headed to PC, Mac, iOS and Android later this year.
