China prepares for local launch of Diablo 3

Believe it or not, Chinese gamers have not been able to battle against the forces of darkness in Diablo III, despite the game launching around the world two years ago. Happily, that’s all about to change.

Blizzard chief executive officer Mike Morhaime explains:

We’re excited to be able to welcome the many passionate gamers in mainland China to Sanctuary. We appreciate all the support Chinese gamers have shown us over the years and hope they have a great time playing Diablo III.

The company is working with NetEase yet again to bring the game to the Asian nation, just like it did with StarCraft II, World of Warcraft, Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm.

NetEase chief executive officer William Ding continues:

We’re very excited that with our effort, all five of Blizzard’s game series will be delivered to Chinese players. We’ll continue to work closely with Blizzard to prepare for a smooth Diablo III launch in China so that local gamers can start playing this epic adventure as soon as possible.

For those of you anxiously waiting, that’s as close as we’ve gotten to a release date at this stage, but it can’t be too far off. The companies also have not announced whether the localised release will include the Reaper of Souls expansion set, but we’ve got our fingers firmly crossed.
