Cliffy B counts down to glorious gaming return

Love him or hate him, there’s no denying that Cliff Bleszinski – Cliffy B – certainly carved himself a neat little position in the games industry. And then he left it. But now he’s coming back!

Bleszinski, formerly of Epic Games, where he was a driving force behind games as diverse as Jazz Jackrabbit and Gears of War, officially left the studio (and video game development) back in 2012.

Fans have been clamouring for his return virtually since he announced his exit, and it seems their prayers have been answered.

I’m officially coming out of retirement to make video games again.

His original statement – via Twitter, of course – told gamers to “stay tuned”, with a major announcement coming in a week’s time. To make absolutely sure you don’t miss the big news, he’s now also launched a countdown timer, ticking over the seconds remaining.

At the end of the day I’m going back to work because I don’t want to be the guy who “says” things, I want to be the guy who *does* things.

That said, the things Bleszinski will be doing won’t include revisiting a favourite franchise – the rights for Unreal Tournament, Gears of War and Jazz Jackrabbit all remain comfortably with Epic. Sorry ’bout that.
