Valiant Hearts: The Great War was a surprise inclusion at the Ubisoft E3 press conference. Perhaps the bigger surprise is the fact that this brand new side-scroller is available right now for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
Keep those tissues handy, Ubisoft‘s promised us an emotional ride, wrapped in a gorgeous cartoon art style (this one – like Child of Light and both recent Rayman outings before it – uses the UbiArt engine).
The storyline follows five central characters – and their little dog, too – through the horrors of the Western Front. Each one has been inspired by real-world historical figures, like American volunteer fighter Freddie, inspired by the Harlem Hellfighters of the 369th infantry, and Emile, a French farmer now captured by the Germans as a POW.
Valiant Hearts has been in quiet development at Ubisoft Montpellier for a while now, and it’s great to see it finally seeing release, commemorating the centenary of the first World War. Grab it now if you’d like a different view of combat than the bombastic pyrotechnics we’re traditionally shown.
